Sasha de Buyl -Pisco

URL:

taxidermymouse.wordpress.com

Skills:

I write vibrant and engaging copy for both print and online outlets. Having held a variety of jobs in my time, writing has been the one consistent element in these, and I have been working as a proofreader, copywriter and editorial assistant in a freelance capacity for over four years.

I am comfortable working to a company’s tone and register, and have experience devising content stategies and editorial tone of voice for a brand.

The content I write is sharp and fun to read, and informative without being prescriptive.

In addition to this, my most recent work has led me to greatly expand my copywriting knowledge, particularly with regards to SEO-friendly copy, online marketing and social media. I am available to consult on social media strategy, company tone and how to develop a brand’s voice.

I enjoy working on several projects at once and do not shy away from a deadline.

Bio:

Sasha de Buyl -PiscoWords have always been a huge part of my life, and are something which I hope to always be working with.

I have been proofreading and editing from a young age, for Random Animals Press, and the local freesheet, then moved on to producing copy for my student paper and the creative writing society while at university.
I graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2009 with a degree in English and Film Studies, and since have maintained several freelance writing and editing contracts.
I currently work writing copy for an events site in Edinburgh, www.clicket.co.uk, but continue to work freelance as a copywriter.

I blog regularly at Taxidermy Mouse, and also for the fashion site, Catwalk Genius. I am currently covering the Edinburgh International Film Festival for This Is Central Station.

So You Want to be a Critic?

Jane-Ann

I have to admit I resisted this well-trodden route into features journalism at first. Who was I to impose my views on others? What did I know about …

In the end my three years (up to 2000) as a comedy critic for The Scotsman did indeed lead to other work opportunities. It also led to being massively over-entertained in the month of August, and an aversion to comedians that is probably mutual. Read the rest of this entry »

Alistair Burton

URL:

www.alistairburton.com

Skills:

As a photographer it is my aim to create images that will represent you and what you do authentically and timelessly; not just take some photographs.

_Occasions_

Whether the occasion is your wedding, birthday, formal dinner or works christmas party … all work that I conduct is client lead. I will meet with you in advance to properly discuss the event, and how you want it ‘recorded’ in still form for you and your guests to look back upon, be it personal or corporate. I also work in conjunction with a videographer if you should wish to add this element to your package.

The most important thing is that you and your guests are completely relaxed when images are captured as you want the final result to show you … Not you posing for a snap. The less you even notice me throughout YOUR day/night the better. Real smiles, real tears of joy, real moments. Simple.

_Lifestyle_

I am also available for lifestyle photography shoots. When you decide you want images of you and your family, you want it to be at your home while you enjoy each others company, or at a place you regularly go for a walk or meal. If you want me to stand you in a group with a white background and say ‘cheese’ I can.

However, I get much more satisfaction as a photographer from capturing what is real, and I truly think that you will enjoy and look back upon such images with much greater enjoyment too. It is amazing how quickly you can become comfortable having your photograph taken in a familiar setting, and I can really help put you at ease. I see that as the biggest part of my job, as if you aren’t being yourself … there are no pictures to take.

_Products_

Creative product Photography is a further service that I provide, whether you are looking for input into advertising shots/campaigns or simply just shots of items for use in your online store. I will work with you to create a fitting representation of your products/services, and catch the eye of your target market. If it is this you are after, drop me an e-mail and i will link you to some sites that I have done work for.

_Music + Creative_

Music: If you are a band or solo artist I will work with you to photograph you in a unique and interesting location. Whether you need cover/sleeve note art, poster images, a selection of images to represent your sound online or a combination of all three, i will tailor a specific package to what you want and need that encompasses photographs, graphics and video for web content as you see fit.

As a musician and lover of music myself I am aware of how important the visual representation of a band/musician has become. I think it is important to have a mix of images that show you when playing live and also ‘on location’. Images that are visually challenging and interesting in a way that they become an extension of the audio experience; not just a random aside. I can provide input right from location, styling and theme or can take direction if you are already set on your idea.

Creative: If you want a single piece of large Art on canvas for your office, or a collection of framed images for your lounge or hall, I can work with you to understand what you like, and perhaps most importantly ask questions to help you discover what you might like. I can provide you with a completely original piece of stunning visual Art for a very reasonable price so you need never buy mass print images again. Art in your home or work place should be personal to you … and it needn’t cost the earth to achieve this.

Also, if you are an aspiring model looking for something different for your card or folio and we can have a chat about it.

If I sound like the type of photographer that you would like to work with, please contact me to discuss pricing and view work relevant to the specific job.

Bio:

Alistair-BurtonI am based in Central Scotland, but I am available for work anywhere. I have been taking photographs as a hobby for many years, and fell into it in a professional capacity almost by accident a few years ago when I was made redundant.

Rather than jumping at the first desk job the agency threw in my direction, I thought about what I really wanted to do … and photography was the absolute and only answer. I am never without a camera. I love capturing moments as they happen.

I took up some work experience with the renowned wedding and portrait photographers Premier Photography in Hamilton. I spent twelve months there as an assistant photographer learning how to work with clients at weddings and how to work studio lighting.

Additionally, I have studied photography in the evenings and weekends at Glasgow Metropolitan College and also at the University of West of Scotland in order to develop my skills in Digital Image Manipulation using programs such as Photoshop etc.

If I am not taking pictures, I am editing pictures. It is what I love. I think my passion for photography in addition to working closely with you the client, are key to the final results i achieve. To get the perfect shots, all I have to do is listen to you.

Bio:

Chris HannahBasically, I love being creative. An ‘ideas person’, if you like. By day I work in Advertising as Senior Art Director at Clayton Graham Communications, by night I’m a freelance book designer (plus anything else that comes my way).

These past 5 years, I’ve developed, designed and directed my ideas (and those of our team) into a wide portfolio of creative work. I will continue to this until I have done something worth resting on my laurels about.

Ladies Man1

Death of a Ladies' Man

Role: Art Direction and Design

Author: Alan Bissett
Publisher: Hachette Scotland

Brief: Death of a Ladies’ Man was the third novel from Alan Bissett – one of Scotland’s leading contemporary fiction writers. As it was a stand alone piece of fiction, the brief was open to my own creative direction.

Result: The book has appeared in a number of high profile publications, including Esquire, Grazia and The List.

URL: http://chrishannah.co.uk/work/book-covers/death-of-a-ladies-man/

Audi-screenshot

Audi-screenshot

Role: Concept, Art Direction & endline copy

Client: The Lomond Audi Group

Brief: To produce a 30 second commercial to highlight that Edinburgh Audi had changed ownership, and locations, to a new state-of-the-art centre. It was to acknowledge the fact that the previous incarnation had a poor reputation and that the new centre was to be a ‘new dawn’ for the dealership.

End Result: My concept was to highlight the time spent on the whole customer experience, whilst also showcase the aesthetics of the centre. By using the time-lapse effect you’re given an overview of the work that goes on behind the scenes, whilst my endline ties in with the concept of time and the notion of a ‘new dawn’.

Broaderview1

The Herald

Role: Art Direction and Design

Brief: To provide a single iconic shot that would show The Herald (Scotland’s best read quality broadsheet) as ‘Scotland’s paper’, as it was still seen (by some) as a Glasgow paper. The shot also had to compliment the end line we developed – ‘A broader view’ – as this was to provide the backbone for all outdoor and POS brand advertising.

End Result: By utilising the vast library of stock photography at The Herald , I was able to depict Scotland as one village by merging most of Scotland’s major landmarks into one, highlighting The Herald’s broad coverage of not just one city, but the whole country.

A Developer’s Tale

Marco Vezzani is a Web Developer based in Grangemouth. He kindly takes time to share his thoughts on how web development appealed to him even from an early age.

What prompted you to be a Web Developer?

Well that’s a hard question to answer seeing as when I was growing up and at school the internet wasn’t quite what we have today. I arrived late to the whole web design/ development concept as only universities and libraries tended to have web access, so I wasn’t really exposed to it in the way that people are now. He studied in Aberdeen before heading off to London to work in video, web design and multimedia. Jane-Ann Purdy

URL:

www.geordiemac.co.uk

Skills:

I specialise in writing for others. I will write for you when you don’t have time to write that speech, article, web content, book, press release or whatever.

I edit publications, both online and offline, aimed at your customers or employees. And I develop websites, tailored to your needs and those of your clients.

Bio:

Jane-Ann PurdyLike all writers I am nosy. I can get interested in anything, and fast.

My background is reasonably eclectic, but I like to think no experience is wasted. Every day’s a school day, if you like.

I graduated with a degree in film and media from the University of Stirling and went straight into two years working as … a nanny. Hmm, not what I’d planned exactly, but useful experience nonetheless.

My next job was more promising. In 1991 I became personal assistant to Muriel Gray, researcher for her first production company, and general dogsbody around the office.

By 1994 I was producing commercials (in Scotland) when I decided to give London a try. I spent about 18 months working on Eurotrash – remember that? But I soon tired of looking at my feet on public transport, and returned to Edinburgh in 1996.

A series of happy accidents found me reinvented as a journalist writing, in the national press, on the media industry, television, film, and comedy. This led to more general features writing, and being massively over-entertained at the Edinburgh Festival each year.

I also took corporate briefs at this time and found myself getting meatier jobs in this sector, plus an editorship of an in-house magazine for a multinational technology publishing company.

This spell turned me on to the internet and its massive potential for publishing content in a new and compelling way.

I set up GeordieMac in 2009 and now work with a crew of dedicated freelancers: photographers, designers, and web producers. Our latest project is http://www.swimshawmethod.com – a web magazine aimed at all those who love swimming or just being in the water.

Sometimes I’m asked if web publishing is the future. I don’t have a crystal ball, but what I would say is, it’s the now.
